Mercedes Sprinter shuttle van at the Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach entrance on Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu

Your Trusted Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach Shuttle Service

The first thing most guests notice walking into Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach is not the front desk. It is the fish. A three-storey, 280,000-gallon saltwater oceanarium stands in the middle of an open-air lobby, and children who have spent six hours strapped into an airplane seat tend to reach it well before their parents reach check-in. That is a pleasant problem to have. It is a considerably better one when the bags are already with a bell attendant and nobody is still refreshing a rideshare app with one hand.

Reaching 2490 Kalakaua Avenue is not hard. Reaching it on a schedule you set in advance, at a price you agreed to before you left home, is a separate question. This resort runs no airport shuttle of its own and points arriving guests toward a shared-van partner instead — a legitimate option, provided you know that shared vans work their way along Kalakaua and empty at the hotels nearer town first. The alternative most guests here weigh is a rental car, and at this address that decision carries a cost structure worth reading carefully before you book one.

Go Waikiki Shuttle has been locally owned and operated in Honolulu since 2008. We are licensed by the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission, our fleet is Mercedes Sprinter vans, and we make this run daily. What follows covers the drive from HNL, where to find your driver, how drop-off works at an open-air lobby on a one-way street, the questions guests at this property actually ask us, and how to reserve.

HNL to 2490 Kalakaua: Ten Miles and a One-Way Street

Daniel K. Inouye International Airport sits about ten miles from the resort, and a typical transfer runs 25 to 35 minutes. Most of that is freeway, which behaves predictably. The last mile is the part that rewards a driver who already knows the block.

Kalakaua Avenue runs one-way through Waikiki, carrying traffic toward Diamond Head. That works in your favour on arrival: the resort’s entrance sits on the mauka side of the street, which means the van reaches it moving with the flow, on the correct side, with no left turn across four lanes of pedestrians and trolleys. Guests who have watched a driver circle a Waikiki block three times looking for an opening will appreciate what that saves. Live terminal conditions are published by the state at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, and roadway advisories by the Hawaii Department of Transportation. For a full picture of what we run across the island, see our Honolulu airport shuttle service overview.

Why the Return Leg Runs Longer Than the Arrival

Departure works the other direction, and this catches people out. Leaving the driveway you continue away from town, because that is the only way the street goes, then loop back toward the airport by way of Kapahulu Avenue or Ala Wai Boulevard, which itself runs one-way the opposite way. It is four or five extra minutes on a quiet morning and rather more between seven and nine, when this corner of Waikiki funnels onto the same two roads as everyone else. We build that into your pickup time rather than asking you to guess at it.

Meeting Your Driver at Honolulu Airport

There is nothing to arrange beyond your reservation. Land, collect your bags, then call or text (808) 797-7950 from baggage claim. We will tell you precisely where to stand for your terminal and bring the van to you. Pickup points at HNL vary by airline and are occasionally moved during construction, which is why we confirm yours live instead of printing a location on a booking form that may be out of date by the time you use it.

Flights are tracked in real time. A delay, an early landing, or a diversion needs no phone call from you and changes nothing about what you pay. First-time arrivals may find our Honolulu airport guide useful for the terminal layout and baggage claim numbering.

Arriving From Japan, Korea, or Australia

This resort publishes its website in Japanese, Korean and Chinese, which tells you something about who stays here. International arrivals clear customs before reaching baggage claim, and that queue can be long after a wide-body lands. Text us once you are through rather than at wheels-down. The same number works on WhatsApp, so you can reach us before your carrier plan sorts itself out and without roaming charges.

Drop-Off at an Open-Air Lobby: What Arrival Looks Like

The resort presents a covered driveway on Kalakaua where bell staff meet arriving vehicles. Our driver pulls in, unloads your luggage onto a cart, and hands it over. From there you walk into a lobby open to the trade winds on both sides, with the oceanarium rising through the middle of it and the Shops at Alohilani off the Beachside Tower lobby level.

Two practical notes. First, the driveway is shared with restaurants and a valet operation, so it is busiest in the early evening — a Sprinter needs a moment to find its spot, and a driver who knows the property will take the one that does not block the lane. Second, if anyone in your party has mobility needs or you are travelling with an infant, say so in the booking notes and we will position accordingly rather than sorting it out at the curb.

If You Land Before Check-In

Check-in here is 3:00 p.m. Plenty of mainland flights land well before that. Book your transfer for your actual landing time regardless: the bell desk will hold luggage, and you are far better off changing into shorts and walking across to Kuhio Beach than sitting in a terminal waiting for a room that is not ready either way.

What a Car Actually Costs at This Address

This is where the arithmetic at Alohilani diverges from most of Waikiki. A guest with a rental car pays three separate nightly charges here: the daily resort amenity fee, which applies whether you drive or not, and then either self-parking or valet stacked on top of it. Each is billed per night, before tax, and the resort publishes current amounts on its own resort FAQ page. Read them before you reserve a car, not after.

Set that against how little driving a stay here actually requires. Kuhio Beach is across the street. Kapiolani Park, the Honolulu Zoo and the aquarium are a walk, not a drive. Seven dining outlets sit inside the building, including two by Masaharu Morimoto, and the fitness centre, spa and rooftop courts are all upstairs. A car parked at this address spends most of the week in a garage accruing charges for the privilege.

Rent for the Day You Need It, Not the Week

For guests who do want the North Shore or the windward coast, there is a straightforward answer: a rental counter operates on the lobby level of the Beachside Tower. Take a car for the one day you have planned, hand it back that evening, and skip six nights of parking. Alternatively, a private Oahu circle island tour covers the same ground with someone else navigating Kamehameha Highway, which is generally the better trade on a day you would rather look out the window. Our full range of Oahu transportation services is set out separately.

Traveling With Children, Pets and Gear

Families arrive here in volume, and the resort is built for them — a saltwater infinity pool, cultural classes on the lobby level, rooftop courts. Our Mercedes Sprinter vans are built for the corresponding luggage. The standard rate covers up to two checked bags per person plus carry-on items, with no per-bag charge in either direction.

Alohilani is also one of the few Waikiki resorts that accepts dogs, within its own weight limit and fee schedule. We are asked about pet transfers on this route more than on any other, and the honest answer is that arrangements depend on the animal, the carrier and the vehicle: call (808) 797-7950 before you book and we will tell you what we can do rather than guess in a booking form.

What to Declare When You Book

Child car seats and booster seats are available at a small additional charge, and the booking form asks which you need and how many so the right restraint is fitted before we reach the terminal. Oversized items — surfboards, golf bags, bicycles — also carry a small additional charge and need only to be declared in advance so we send a vehicle with room for them. Larger parties can travel on a private transfer, in a Cadillac SUV, or by motor coach for groups beyond a single van.

Departure Day: An 11 a.m. Checkout and an Evening Flight

Checkout is 11:00 a.m. Most mainland departures leave HNL in the late afternoon or evening. That gap is real, it is often five or six hours long, and it is the single most common source of confusion we hear from guests at this property.

The gap is not a problem so much as a decision. Leave your bags with the bell desk, spend the afternoon at the beach or in Kapiolani Park, come back, rinse off, and have us collect you a few hours before your flight. What you should not do is book a pickup for 11:00 a.m. and spend five hours at the gate. Tell us your flight number when you reserve and we will suggest a pickup time that accounts for both the loop back toward the airport and the queue at bag drop.

Confirm Your Pickup the Day Before

One thing is asked of you, and only one. Call or text (808) 797-7950, or email info@gowaikikishuttle.com, at least one day before your service to confirm the time — arrivals and departures both. It takes a minute and it is the reason departure mornings on this route are uneventful. Booking terms, including cancellation, are set out in our fulfillment policy.

Other Waikiki Properties on This Route

The block around 2490 Kalakaua is dense with hotels, and we run the same flat-rate transfer to most of them — the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach shuttle a block toward town, the Waikiki Beach Marriott airport shuttle a little further along, the Hilton Waikiki Beach Resort shuttle one street mauka, and transfers to Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach, Hotel La Croix, Bamboo Waikiki and the Ambassador Hotel of Waikiki. Further afield we cover the Sheraton Waikiki, Halekulani, Hilton Hawaiian Village, the Kahala Hotel and Ko Olina.

Our pickup at the airport was awesome considering that Diego had to wait 45 minutes for the rest of our party to arrive. For our departure, Ray was about 10 minutes earlier than scheduled so we had a pleasant/ unhurried ride to the airport from KoOlina. Considering the cost of car rentals these days, this was an absolute bargain and a very Aloha experience. Will definitely use their services again. Thank you Diego, Ray and rest of the staff.

Was picked up at the Honolulu airport with no delays — easy ride to Waikiki. Thanks for the ride!

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The resort does not operate an airport shuttle and instead recommends a shared-shuttle partner on its own resort FAQ page. Shared vans are cheaper per seat but stop at several properties, and this address is rarely the first one. We run direct transfers between HNL and 2490 Kalakaua Avenue, arrivals and departures, with the rate fixed before you travel.
At the covered driveway on Kalakaua Avenue, where bell staff meet arriving vehicles and take your luggage. Kalakaua is one-way through this stretch and the entrance sits on the mauka side, so we arrive moving with traffic and pull straight in. If anyone in your party has mobility needs, note it when you book and the driver will position accordingly.
Usually 25 to 35 minutes for the roughly ten-mile trip. The freeway portion is predictable; the variation comes from Waikiki itself. Late afternoons run longest, and departure morning between seven and nine adds time because leaving this address means looping back toward the airport rather than turning around.
No — book the transfer for your actual landing time. Check-in here is 3:00 p.m., but the bell desk holds luggage, so you can drop bags, change, and be across at Kuhio Beach hours before your room is ready. Waiting at HNL for a mid-afternoon pickup wastes the better part of a vacation day.
Not for 11:00 a.m. Leave your bags with the bell desk, take the afternoon, and have us collect you roughly three to three and a half hours before a domestic departure or four before an international one. Give us your flight number when you reserve and we will suggest a time that accounts for the loop back toward the airport.
For most guests at this property, comfortably. A car here draws a nightly parking charge, self-park or valet, on top of the daily resort amenity fee that applies whether you drive or not — and that is before the rental and fuel. Current amounts are published on the resort’s own FAQ page at alohilaniresort.com/faq. With Kuhio Beach across the street and Kapiolani Park a walk away, a car at this address mostly sits.
It is one of the few Waikiki resorts that accepts dogs, so we are asked this often. What we can accommodate depends on the animal, whether it travels in a carrier, and the vehicle assigned to your transfer. Please call (808) 797-7950 before booking rather than adding it as a note, and we will confirm arrangements for your specific situation.
Collect your bags first, then call or text (808) 797-7950 from baggage claim. We will direct you to the pickup point for your terminal and bring the van to you. Meeting points differ by airline and change from time to time during airport works, which is why we confirm yours live rather than printing it on a booking.
Nothing you need to do. We track incoming flights in real time and adjust your pickup automatically, early or late, with no delay surcharge and no waiting fee. If your flight is cancelled outright or rebooked to another day, call or text (808) 797-7950 so we can move your reservation to the new arrival.
Yes, at a small additional charge. The booking form asks whether you need car seats or boosters and how many, so the correct restraints are fitted before we reach the terminal. Hawaii law requires child restraints, and this is a family property — please request them at booking rather than on arrival.
Up to two checked bags per person plus carry-on items, at no extra charge, in each direction. Surfboards, golf bags and bicycles carry a small additional charge and need to be declared when you book so we send a van with room. Undeclared oversized items are the one thing that reliably slows an arrival down.
Yes. This resort carries one of the largest ballrooms in Waikiki and a substantial meetings floor, so wedding parties and conference groups land here regularly, usually spread across several flights. Call (808) 797-7950 with your passenger counts and arrival times and we will build the schedule around the flights, using multiple vans or a motor coach as the numbers require.
Airport transfers are booked to a single address, so your arrival goes to the resort. For transportation during your stay we run point-to-point service across Oahu and private island tours. Call (808) 797-7950 and we will quote it. From this address, the zoo, the aquarium and Kapiolani Park are close enough that most guests walk.
Current roundtrip rates for this route are shown on our online booking page at gowaikikishuttle.com/reserve-online — choose your dates, passenger count and any add-ons and the total appears before you confirm. It is a flat rate with no meter and no surge pricing. One-way transfers can be booked online at gowaikikishuttle.com/reserve-online/, or call (808) 797-7950 to book by phone.
Yes, and it is the one step we ask of everyone: call or text (808) 797-7950, or email info@gowaikikishuttle.com, at least one day before your service to confirm the time, for arrivals and departures both. If you need to cancel, a 15% processing fee applies and the remainder is refunded. Reserve your transfer at gowaikikishuttle.com/reserve-online.

Book Your Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach Shuttle Service Today

Poor transportation planning costs a Hawaii trip in the two currencies that are hardest to replace: hours and calm. A shared van that reaches this end of Kalakaua last, a fare that moved between the quote and the curb, a rental car accruing nightly charges while it sits in a garage — none of it ruins a holiday, and all of it takes something off the top.

We have been doing this from Honolulu since 2008, locally owned and PUC-licensed, and we understand what this trip represents for the people in the van. Most of our passengers saved for it. Some waited years. The drive from the airport should be the part nobody remembers.

Reserve your transfer on our online booking page or call (808) 797-7950. Add car seats, oversized items and any mobility needs in the booking notes and it will be sorted before your flight lands. One number to keep: call or text (808) 797-7950 a day before your service to confirm the time, and again from baggage claim when you land. International travellers can reach it on WhatsApp. Questions first? Our contact page lists every way to reach us, and a person answers.
